Editorial Standards

CareerToolbox is a curated directory. Every tool we list is reviewed by hand against the standards below — we don't auto-import listings or publish vendor copy verbatim. These standards exist so job seekers can trust that what they find here was chosen on the merits.

What we look for

We list tools and services that genuinely help job seekers prepare, practice, and improve — resume and CV builders, interview preparation, coaching, job boards, and related tools. A listing generally needs to:

  • Serve a real job-seeker need with a working, publicly accessible product or service.
  • Have a functioning destination — a live site where a job seeker can actually use or buy the tool.
  • Make claims we can verify independently, from our own review and reputable third-party sources.
  • Operate transparently about what it does, what it costs, and who is behind it.

What we don't list

We decline tools that work against the interests of job seekers or the integrity of hiring, including:

  • Tools built on deception. Anything whose primary purpose is to deceive an employer, interviewer, or proctor — undetectable interview assistance, fabricated credentials or experience, impersonation, or cheating on assessments. Marketing that emphasizes "stealth," "undetectable," or evading proctoring is disqualifying.
  • Predatory or scam schemes. Tools that charge job seekers upfront fees for "guaranteed" jobs or interviews, pay-to-apply schemes, or products that collect and resell job-seeker data without clear disclosure.
  • Broken or dead destinations. Tools without a working job-seeker destination, or whose linked site is down, parked, or inaccessible.
  • Unverifiable products. Anything we can't independently confirm is real and does what it claims.

How we rate

Ratings are editorial and research-based. We draw on our own evaluation and reputable third-party sources — user reviews, independent testing, and public reporting. We never use vendor-supplied ratings, and a tool's rating is independent of any commercial or affiliate relationship. Ratings reflect our assessment for job seekers, not a tool's willingness to partner with us.

Affiliate disclosure

Some links on CareerToolbox are affiliate links, marked with rel="sponsored". If you sign up or buy through them, we may earn a commission at no additional cost to you. Affiliate relationships never affect whether a tool is listed or how it is rated or ranked — those decisions are made on the merits, independent of any partnership.

Who we are

CareerToolbox is operated by The JobKnob LLC. The JobKnob's own services may appear in this directory; where they do, they are held to the same standards as every other listing and are not given preferential rating or placement.

Submitting a tool

Anyone can submit a tool for review. We aim to review submissions within 2–3 business days, though review times vary with volume and this is not a guaranteed timeframe. Submitting a tool — and our reviewing it — does not guarantee a listing; every tool is evaluated against these standards. Questions? Reach us at support@careertoolbox.org.
